This tray features the unique and bold grain patterns found naturally in Ash hardwood. The herringbone design on the base of the tray provides a unique texture that makes it a great centerpiece on your ottoman or coffee table. The brushed brass handles offer a subtle complement to the light color of the Ash hardwood. This is the tray I chose for our own living room!
This here beauty is made out of good old fashion American Ash. It’s straight up Hard. Wood. The only corners that are cut on this bad boy are the tight 45 degree ones on the actual corners of it. Other than that, it’s probably the most sturdy ottoman tray you’ll come across on either side of the Mississippi River. You’ll feel it when you pick it up, and you’ll hear it when you set your cocktail down on it…that satisfying, thick, solid "clunk” sound that a beer bottle makes when it’s put down on something substantial. You may experience some momentary confusion as you find yourself unsure of whether or not you’ve just set your beverage down on your kitchen table…oh wait, nope, it was your ottoman tray. If you tend to suffer from kitchen table vs. ottoman tray distinction anxiety, then this tray is not for you, and we recommend going with a cheaper, less substantial option that's made overseas from a big box retailer. And we won’t take it personally either. I get it. Life can be hard. So is this tray.
ABOUT:
This particular tray is made out of American Ash hardwood. Like all of our products, I hand select the rough stock wood from my local lumber yard here in Nashville, and cut and plane the rough wood myself to be used in the work you see here. Ash is one of the harder woods on the spectrum. Unlike lots of reclaimed wood, pine, or poplar, Ash is more durable and tougher to scratch...very difficult to scratch with your fingernail for example. Since it's harder and denser, it's also a bit heavier. These qualities make Ash a great wood for making items like this, and will be more durable and last longer.
However, like anything made out of real wood - you need to treat it with respect and take care of it. Though the final product is finished and treated and will resist stains, it's still a good idea to try and use coasters and make sure to clean up any spills.
The product has been finished with Danish Oil to seal and protect it.
