This tray is crafted out of the rich beautiful tones of Ash and Walnut hardwoods. The herringbone design on the base of the tray features the bold contrast between the light and dark woods, making this tray truly catch the eye as you walk into the room. It’s an extremely functional accent piece for your ottoman or coffee table.
I know what you’re thinking, “that tray kinda looks like Charlie Brown’s shirt”…and truth be told I think I may have actually watched the little peanuts around the time I made the first one of these, and perhaps subconsciously I drew inspiration from it. However, the similarities go no further than Charlies apparel…because this tray is sturdy, it doesn’t get pushed around, it holds a beer really well…and I don’t recall ever seeing Charlie Brown hold a beer. I always got the sense that he was more on the straight and narrow. At least when he was a peanut. You never know how these child stars are going to turn out. Anyhow, you’ll know this thing is sturdy as soon as you pick it up. In your hands it’ll feel like you’re wielding a solid, substantial, one-of-a-kind piece of American craftsmanship, with absolutely nothing cheap about it…and that’s because it IS one-of-a-kind, and there isn’t anything cheap about it. Your lawyers and family will find it strange, but you’ll include it in your will to your favorite grandkid.
Now, on to the other details you might like to know.
This particular tray is made out of Ash and Walnut hardwood, top and bottom, and has brushed brass handles on it. Like all of our products, I hand select the rough stock wood from my local lumber yard here in Nashville, and cut and plane the rough wood myself to be used in the work you see here. Ash and Walnut are harder woods on the spectrum. Unlike lots of reclaimed wood or pine, they are more durable and tougher to scratch...very difficult to scratch with your fingernail for example. These qualities make them great woods for making items like this, as they're durable and will last for years and years. Since they're harder and denser, the tray is also a bit heavier, sturdier, and more substantial. Not to mention the grain characteristics are very pleasing to look at.
Like anything made out of real wood - you need to treat it with respect and take care of it. Please see product care notes for more information.
The product has been finished with satin lacquer to seal and protect it, same finish that is used on most dining room tables.
